About Sockets
Avoid these except for expensive parts. Not only do they add
to the expense, but they actually reduce reliability by
providing many little connections that can oxidize.
Also, most sockets won't work at all for
double-sided boards using these simple construction
methods without plated-through holes. That's because you need
to solder to both top and bottom ends of the pins, but the
socket body prevents access to the top trace.
